small grants
£10,000 may seem like a lot of money but to funders, grants of up to this size are generally classed as ‘small grants’.  If you’re looking to carry out a feasibility study, establish a small project, get training or buy small items of equipment then you’re probably best to start in this section.

BT Community Connections Award

The award scheme enables community and charitable organisations to get online and make use of information and communications technology (ICT). Organisations, working in any field of community benefit, located throughout the UK can apply for a laptop and a year's free broadband connection. There are more than 1,000 award packages available to groups who can demonstrate how an award will benefit their work and the local community. Community Radio Fund

Ofcom's Community Radio Fund's second round for application in 2009/10 will open on the 13th October and close on the 10th November 2009. Under the fund, Community Radio Stations can apply for funding to support their core running costs. These can include: Management; Administration, financial management & reporting costs; Fundraising to support the station; Community outreach work; Costs involved in using volunteers. There is no upper limit of grant that can be applied for, however, the minimum grant is £5,000. Grants can only be made to community radio licensees who are broadcasting under a community radio licence (and not an RSL, for example). Cooperative Community Fund

Community Fund grants, between £100 and £2,000 are awarded to community, voluntary, or self-help groups to run projects that address a community issue; provide a good long-term benefit to the community; support co-operative values and principles; and, ideally be innovative in its approach. FirstGroup PLC Grants Scheme

The Grants charitable criteria include: young people; health and the environment. The funding available is discretionary. The application form is available from the FirstGroup PLC website (www.firstgroup.com/corporate/community/charity_and_sponsorship.php) and applications can be submitted at any time.

 
Fuserna Foundation

The Foundation helps revitalize existing charities and charitable projects that are failing in their objectives due to financial constraints and or lack of exposure and publicity. It offers support for a wide range of activities including projects that alleviate poverty and financial hardship; that relieve sickness and poor health; enable people to reach their potential despite social, physiological or environmental barriers; help local communities to improve their area; and, care for people suffering from mental or physical illness. The Fuserna Foundation will usually issue grants between £5,000 and £15,000. For more information, go to www.fusernafoundation.org/about-us.asp.
